Edito nel 1967, quando il coinvolgimento militare degli Stati Unitinel conflitto indocinese era all’apice, “Why Are We in Vietnam?”
suscitò un acceso dibattito nell’opinione pubblica americana. Il
saggio esamina alcuni aspetti della narrazione attraverso cui
Mailer, rispondendo alla domanda posta dal titolo del romanzo,
denuncia le logiche ideologico-culturali che spinsero il suo paese a
intraprendere una guerra sanguinosa e fallimentare.
